WHEN cosmonaut Major Dr Faiz Khaleed aimed a kick at one of the robbers, his only thought was his friend’s safety.
“There was nothing else on my mind except to save my friend who had a parang pressed to his neck,” he said at Gleneagles Intan Medical Centre yesterday.
Dr Faiz said he kicked one of the robbers to distract them. His action angered both robbers who turned on him.
“When I saw one of them swinging the parang, I retreated and tried to fend off the attack with my left hand,” he said.
Dr Faiz did not realise his hand had been slashed until he saw blood running down his hand when he drove his friend to hospital.
He lost a lot of blood and needed 100 stitches for the deep gash.
Doctors informed Dr Faiz that he would fully recover in one and a half months.
“I will follow the physiotherapy schedule religiously and hope to continue with my astronaut training early next year.”
